At-home light therapy
Red Light Therapy in Canada — Professional Results at Home
Red light therapy uses specific wavelengths of LED light to support the skin and body from within — stimulating collagen, calming redness and aiding recovery, with no downtime and no harsh actives. Beauty Edit stocks two devices, both hand-selected by makeup artist Rachel Shultz: a 4-in-1 LED face mask and a full-body 1280-LED therapy mat.
How does red light therapy work?
Red and near-infrared light is absorbed by the mitochondria in your cells, where it supports the energy production those cells need to repair and renew themselves. This process is called photobiomodulation. Unlike UV light, it does not damage the skin — there is no burning, no peeling and no recovery time.
Different wavelengths reach different depths, which is why the best devices combine several. Shorter wavelengths such as blue light work at the surface where acne bacteria live, while longer near-infrared wavelengths travel deepest to support tissue repair.
What each wavelength does
The Red Light Therapy Mask is a 4-in-1 device combining four clinically distinct wavelengths:
- 460nm (Blue) — targets acne-causing bacteria and helps stabilise oil production
- 590nm (Yellow/Orange) — reduces the appearance of redness and improves micro-circulation for a healthy glow
- 630nm (Deep Red) — stimulates collagen production and helps soften fine lines and wrinkles
- 850nm (Near-Infrared) — penetrates deepest into the tissue for cell repair and deep healing
The Red Light Therapy Mat uses 660nm red and 850nm near-infrared across 1280 LEDs, covering the full body at 180 × 80cm with an adjustable 10–90 minute timer and five intensity levels.
Mask or mat — which is right for you?
Choose the Red Light Therapy Mask if your focus is your face: fine lines, breakouts, redness or overall skin tone. It is cordless, rechargeable and treats the whole face in a single 10–20 minute session.
Choose the Red Light Therapy Mat if you want full-body benefits: muscle recovery, back pain, joint stiffness, inflammation and general wellness. At 180 × 80cm it treats large areas at once, and it folds away between sessions.
Many people use both — the mask for skin, the mat for recovery.

How to use red light therapy at home
Most people see results using red light therapy 3 to 5 times per week for 10 to 20 minutes per session. Consistency over several weeks matters far more than daily use — the benefits are cumulative and build gradually rather than appearing overnight.
- Start with clean, dry skin — no makeup, no SPF, no heavy creams
- Position the device and use any eye protection supplied
- Run a 10–20 minute session
- Apply your serums or oils afterwards, when skin is most receptive
Red light therapy is non-invasive and uses no UV light. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or taking photosensitising medication.

Red light therapy is supported by a growing body of research into photobiomodulation, the process by which red and near-infrared light supports cellular energy production. Results are cumulative — most people notice improvements in skin tone and texture after several weeks of consistent use rather than immediately.

Home red light therapy is non-invasive and does not use UV light, so there is no burning or peeling. Follow the session times in the manual, use any eye protection supplied, and consult your doctor if you are pregnant or taking photosensitising medication.
Red light at 630 to 660nm works closer to the skin surface, supporting collagen and skin tone. Near-infrared at 850nm is invisible to the eye and penetrates deeper into tissue, supporting cell repair, recovery and inflammation.
Yes. Use the device on clean, dry skin, then apply serums and oils afterwards when skin is most receptive. Avoid using it over makeup or SPF.
Most people notice improvements in tone and texture after several weeks of consistent use. Because red light therapy is cumulative, a regular routine of 3 to 5 sessions per week produces better results than occasional longer sessions.
